KUBE Radio

I made my debut as a radio DJ today, not on WOLD, but on Keele’s very own KUBE Radio
Per its website (www.kuberadio.com) “since its founding in 1993, KUBE Radio (or Keele University Broadcasting Enterprises, to give it its full title) has grown from being a cupboard-based transmitting club to an internationally recognised and listened to Internet radio station”
I don’t know about that, but it’s a professional, albeit fairly small, studio tucked away at the back of the SU building, with a 4 microphone set up. All music is played throgh a computer based system which includes an extensive database of modern music
However, as my show is called ‘Seventies Flashback’, I’m having to rely on my own music for the time being, which I have on my iPad. So all I need to do is create a Playlist and attach the iPad to the mixing panel
Training was fairly rudimentary as, no matter how much they can tell you, you really learn on the job. I made a few rookie mistakes, but all in all think I did pretty well. My time slot is 9-11 on Tuesday mornings, prime time on off campus radio, but a bit of a graveyard slot at Uni!
I started off the show with Maggie May, as that was number 1 when I arrived, and ran through a Playlist of 32 songs as varied as Pretty Vacant, Baker Street, All the Young Dudes and Hot Stuff. I finished off with Simple Twist of Fate by Big Bob in recognition of his Nobel Prize!
It was great fun and I look forward to next week. I hope you listen in next Tuesday if you can. Apparently there is a way of accessing past programmes, but I haven’t found out how yet. Watch this space! In the meantime, if you have requests, email me at moose@keeleboomerang.com. Obviously they have to be songs from the seventies! If I’ve got it I’ll play it; if I haven’t we can probably get it
You’re right about 9-11 being dead time at University. My son’s hall of residence flat has a notice saying please, no noise before 11 in the morning. Get up you lazy layabouts!
